Volvo to start EX90 deliveries in September
The EX90 will be available in Germany at prices starting from 83,700 euros. That price will get you the five-seater model with 205 kW rear-wheel drive and a 101 (net) kWh battery in the ‘Core’ configuration. The 300 kW all-wheel drive variant called Twin Motor (which comes with a 107 kWh battery) is available from 91,700 euros, but only as a six- or seven-seater. The top model, the 380 kW Twin Motor Performance, starts at 96,800 euros.
With the sizeable electric SUV, the Swedish Geely brand primarily targets the US market – the EX90 is also built at Volvo’s US plant in Charleston (South Carolina) for the global markets. The annual capacity is up to 150,000 vehicles per year. To make the plant fit for the future, Volvo Cars has invested in its factory in recent years: The body shop and paint shop have been modernised and significantly expanded, and a production line for battery packs has been set up. In the US, the EV is available from $79,995. However, only the Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance variants are available there.

Unlike many electric Volvos, the EX90 is not based on a Geely platform – the smaller EX30 shares the technology with the Smart #1 and #3, as well as the Zeekr X, for example – but on the SPA2 (Scalable Product Architecture 2) and vehicle architecture developed by Volvo itself. It is a further development of the first-generation SPA, optimised for electric cars, on which the current combustion and hybrid models of the 60s and 90s series are based. The SPA2 is also used in the Polestar 3 and will be the basis for other Volvo models.
“Based on this trip, I can confidently say that the EX90 is the best car we have ever made,” says Jim Rowan. “After driving it for 950 kilometres through three states in the US in various driving conditions and road surfaces, I only have positive memories. The charging, the handling, the ride comfort, the silence of the cabin and the epic sound system, the reliability, the tech and the feel of the UI – I’ve never driven a Volvo car like it. The EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars, and it begins now.”
