MAN extends contract of CTO Zohm

The Supervisory Board of MAN Truck & Bus SE has extended Frederik Zohm's contract as Executive Board member for Research & Development early until June 2030. One of the reasons given for the early contract extension is the progress made in electromobility.

Zohm joined the MAN Executive Board in July 2017 and has been responsible for Research & Development since then. The MAN e-Truck, which is about to make its debut and will also be the centre of attention at the upcoming IAA Transportation, was therefore largely developed under Zohm’s leadership. However, the top MAN developer does not have his say in his employer’s press release.

Instead, the company’s other managers have their say and are full of praise for his work. “Frederik Zohm has played a key role in making the development of diesel-powered trucks a great success and at the same time progressed toward emission-free mobility at MAN,” says Supervisory Board Chairman Christian Levin. “He has been an important part in the consolidation work of the research capacities under the TRATON GROUP umbrella for the development of the joint modular system for all brands. We look forward continuing to work with him for another five years.” Levin not only chairs the MAN Supervisory Board, but is also CEO of Traton SE and at the same time head of Scania.

MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp praises Zohm’s “in-depth technical expertise” and forward-thinking as a “valuable pillar of our Executive Board work.” “In addition to the development of the new MAN Truck Generation, which was and is an important factor for MAN’s economic turnaround on the product side, Frederik Zohm recognised early on how important the topics of electrification, digitalisation and automation will be for the future product portfolio of commercial vehicle manufacturers and made the MAN engineering team fit for the transformation,” Vlaskamp continued. “This has made a decisive contribution to MAN being well-positioned in future technologies today.”

The new generation of trucks mentioned by Vlaskamp will also be available as the eTGS and eTGX, which are purely electric. Equipped with a 480 kWh battery, a daily range of 600 to 800 kilometres should be possible – with a charging stop during the break in the journey.

Before joining MAN, Zohm was responsible for the alliance management of the strategic partnership with the US truck manufacturer Navistar at the parent company Traton. However, he spent many years of his career with the competition, specifically with the Daimler Group. From 2006, he held various management positions at Evo-Bus, the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Cooperation and, most recently, Daimler Trucks Powertrain.
