Jiyue 07 electric sedan goes on pre-sale in China

The Chinese brand Jiyue, a joint venture between the car company Geely and the internet giant Baidu, has now started pre-sales for its second vehicle model. The Jiyue 07 electric sedan is available from 215,900 yuan (around 27,500 euros).

The Jiyue 07 was unveiled in April at Auto China in Beijing. However, this was only the unveiling of the body design – there was no data on the drive system at the time. Jiyue has now provided this information: the versions with a rear-wheel drive have a 400V architecture and a maximum output of 200 kW. The versions with two motors, on the other hand, use an additional 200 kW motor on the front axle and have an 800-volt architecture.

The more affordable versions of the model use a 71.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which is sufficient for a CLTC range of 660 km. Higher-specified versions get a 100 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery, which gives the single-motor version a range of 880 km, while the dual-motor version has a range of 770 km. No information on charging times is currently available. The Jiyue 07 is based on Geely’s SEA platform, on which all Zeekr models, the Polestar 4 and the Volvo EX models are also built.

The Jiyue 07 measures 4.95 metres in length, 1.99 metres in width and 1.48 metres in height. The wheelbase is 3.01 metres, which provides plenty of space in the interior. This makes the Jiyue 07 significantly larger than its competitor, the Tesla Model 3, which is only 4.72 metres long and has a wheelbase of 2.88 metres.

In the interior, the Jiyue 07 conveys a high-tech image with its yoke-style steering wheel and 35.6-inch 6K screen. The screen can be configured as a full screen, dual screen or triple screen. The screen itself extends from approximately the centre of the driver’s side to the centre of the passenger’s side. There is also a small screen at the rear of the centre console that can be used by rear-seat passengers.

The Jiyue 07 will be equipped with version 2.0 of ASD (Apollo Self Driving), the high-end intelligent driving system of Baidu’s Apollo unit. Like Tesla’s FSD (Full Self Driving) system and the upcoming Xpeng Eagle Vision system, this is a purely visual system that does not use lidar. Use requires a subscription of 599 yuan (76 euros) per month, but is free for the first three months. Alternatively, during a limited introductory phase, there is also the option to buy ASD permanently for 4999 yuan (635 euros). The regular price for the purchase will later be 29,900 yuan (3,800 euros).

After a short pre-sale phase, the Jiyue 07 will go on sale on 10 September. Most manufacturers in China currently use a three-stage process when launching a new car, mainly for marketing reasons: unveiling the vehicle, a short pre-sales phase and the regular sales launch.
