DAF joins European HDV Booking initiative for truck and coach charging
The German truckmaker said that the HDV Booking public charger reservation system for trucks and coaches should further increase the availability of fully electric DAF trucks, particularly for long-distance transport.
The consortium includes charging facility providers, card reader system providers, transporters and software developers. The goal of the consortium is to create a platform that will enable transporters to find and reserve charging points.
Understandably, this aspect of route planning is essential for companies to offer reliable transport services over longer distances. With improved planning, waiting times should be limited and longer distances should become possible, including international routes. DAF says the platform should be operational throughout Europe in 2026.
“An optimal booking system requires all electric vehicles, as well as charging points and planning software, to be connected to each other,” according to Bart Bosmans, Director of Marketing & Sales and a member of the Board of Management at DAF Trucks. “The ability to take factors like traffic congestion and the driver’s rest periods into consideration will lead to more optimal use of both the public charging infrastructure and electric vehicles.”
The HGV Booking project is part of the Task Group Heavy Duty Booking from the EVRoaming Foundation, the task group should be finished with the primary collaboration phase by October 2024. According to the project website, the Task Group “aims to do all the preparations for technical development and implementation needed to support booking of Heavy Duty Vehicles at designated charge stations.”
