BorgWarner presents LFP packs for electric commercial vehicles at the IAA

US automotive supplier BorgWarner will be presenting its latest developments for clean transport technologies at the IAA Transportation in Germany in mid-September. An LFP battery pack and a DC charging station for commercial vehicles will take centre stage at the trade fair in Hanover.

The LFP packs for commercial vehicles are the result of the cooperation with BYD subsidiary FinDreams Batteries, which was announced in February. With this deal, the US company is the only supplier outside of China to have secured access to BYD’s blade batteries for use in commercial vehicles.

BorgWarner is not yet providing any technical details on the new battery packs; this information will probably only be available at the trade fair. The company only says that these LFP batteries “represent a significant step forward in enhancing the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and sustainability of commercial vehicle operations.”

BorgWarner has also announced the launch of a new DC charging station with up to 360 kW of power. The power range is scalable between 120 and 360 kW depending on requirements and use. How exactly the new charging station will fulfil the requirements of commercial electric fleets with heavy vehicles remains unclear in the run-up to the IAA Transportation.

Paul Farrell, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of BorgWarner, sees the show as a “tremendous opportunity to showcase our technologies for efficient and clean commercial vehicles, across electric, hybrid and combustion architectures.”

In addition to the LFP battery packs and the DC column, BorgWarner will also be presenting a commercial vehicle inverter, e-motors, thermal management solutions such as battery coolers and 800 V e-fans for electric commercial vehicles at stand C65 in hall 12.
