Arriva adds 16 electric buses in the Czech Republic
The electric buses for public transport provided by Arriva are built by Czech manufacturer SOR NS and include both the company’s 12-metre standard buses and 18-metre articulated buses.
Arriva Czech Republic has teamed up with ČEZ ESCO and ČSAD MHD Kladno to set up a new charging hub with nine 150 kW stations. According to Arriva, this will be the largest charging hub in the Czech Republic.
More charging stations are to follow in Kladno as Arriva plans to convert more of the city’s CNG and diesel buses to electric vehicles. The cost of the electric buses and initial charging hub has been covered by €10.2 million the Czech Republic’s EU-funded Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP) and a €3.8m contribution from Arriva.
Arriva Czech Republic is introducing zero-emission vehicles in the Klado after being awarded a 10-year €57million contract by passenger transport authority ČSAD MHD Kladno in 2021.
Arriva is a privately owned public transport provider founded in the UK in 1938 that was owned by Deutsche Bahn for the last 20 years and acquired by Squared Capital in 2024.
The company has been operating in the Czech Republic since 2006. Arriva says it is one of the country’s largest public transport providers with more than 3,500 employees, 90 trains and 1,950 buses, with a 25 per cent market share on the tendered bus market and 7 per cent on the tendered train market.
