Bulletproof electric limousine for half a million dollars
Amor Group advertises its fortified Lucid Air model as the “fastest armoured vehicle in the world”. In its original version, the luxury version of Lucid Motors’ Air sprints from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.89 seconds. Armor Group says the military-grade armour installed in the vehicle is “10 times stronger than ballistic steel yet 5 times lighter, allowing the U.S. Armor Group Air Sapphire to maintain its top speed of over 200 mph.”
The ability to shield from bullets comes at a price: While Lucid is asking 249,000 US dollars for the Air Sapphire, the U.S. Armor Group is asking 475,000 US dollars. Lucid Motors published the specifications of its original flagship Air Sapphire model variant almost exactly a year ago. With its three engines, it has a system output of 920 kW and an EPA range of 427 miles (687 kilometres). The powertrain was developed and built in-house by Lucid.
For those with 007 fantasies and a budget to match, Armor Group says they can integrate an impressive array of countermeasures such as electric-shock door handles, pepper spray dispensers, concealed gun ports, poison gas protection/detection, and upgraded armour to stop high-powered rifles, grenades, and explosive devices.
Inside, the vehicle includes what the company says is an “impenetrable” internet/WiFi security package, as well as “cutting-edge” technology “that continuously scans for nearby threats.” This technology, according to the armourers, gathers intelligence from over a million sources, including local police and fire scanners.
If that isn’t enough, a one-touch outreach feature allows the driver to connect with Amor Group for assistance – presumably in the United States, but who knows? Maybe they’re already ready to help in any warzone anywhere in sleek luxury. The mind boggles with possibilities.
