British carmaker Vauxhall announced that the New Frontera Electric and New Frontera Hybrid would be available for the same list price in the UK. The order books will open this fall.

Both vehicles will then have a list price of 23,495 pounds (about 27,875 euros), achieving price parity between electric and petrol hybrid for the first time. As Vauxhall points out, EVs are normally 31 per cent more expensive on average than their combustion engine counterparts.

The electric crossover celebrated its premiere in May. It has an 83 kW electric motor and a 44 kWh battery with LFP cells from SVOLT. It sits on the Stellantis CMP Smart Car platform presented last year and should offer about 300 kilometres of WLTP range. However, these figures are still provisional.

Moreover, Opel/Vauxhall will offer a ‘Long Range’ variant from next year. According to the automaker, it can drive up to 400 kilometres on one charge.

Opel also sells the same vehicle in other European countries. Opel acquired Vauxhall, and the latter only operates under that name in the UK. The German brand opened the order books for the Frontera Electric in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and other European countries in July. In its home market of Germany, the battery-electric Frontera is available for 28,990 euros.

In Italy, the price will start at 27,400 euros, while the Spanish launch has priced the vehicle at 23,500. The hybrid variant will launch at a price below 22,000 euros. Finally, the Frontera will also launch in the Netherlands, priced at 30,499 euros.

“Vauxhall is leading the way in democratising access to electric vehicles, whether through our Electric Streets campaign to accelerate on-street charging infrastructure, our latest PCP offers with equivalent monthly payments between electric and petrol models, or our affordable new special editions,” said James Taylor, Managing Director at Vauxhall. “With the launch of the New Frontera, Vauxhall has eliminated the list price premium that often applies to electric vehicles, with both electric and petrol hybrid versions offered for an identical list price.”
