The Greek capital and the city of Thessaloniki have decided to expand their municipal waste fleets with a number of Fuso eCanter electric trucks. In total, the two cities have ordered 89 electric trucks from Fuso, which are fitted with truck bodies for waste collection from Kaoussis. According to the press release, the truck bodies are fitted with rotating drum compaction technology will primarily be used to collect organic waste.

The interior of the vehicles is fitted with modern amenities, with a 5.7-inch touchscreen in the driver’s cab allowing the driver to monitor operations, run diagnostics and access statistics to ensure safe operation. The trucks are also built according to the EN 1501 safety standard for refuse collection vehicles, as Antonios Evangeloulis, Sales & Marketing Director of the Greek Importer & General Distributor of Daimler Truck products and service Star Automotive Hellas points out: “[…] the body is the first in Europe to meet all standards for operation with standing personnel. This shows that we can also solve major technical challenges and implement complex bodies even on an electric eCanter.”

Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services explains the practicality of utilizing the eCanter as a garbage truck: “Thanks to its compact dimensions and high chassis load-bearing capacity, the electric eCanter is ideally suited for waste disposal companies that operate in narrow streets. In addition, the vehicle is locally emission-free and quiet, making it possible to collect refuse in the early morning in densely populated areas. This makes it particularly suitable for municipal applications.”

Another interesting application for the Fuso eCanter was recently explored in Japan, where a battery-swapping system was tested by the courier service Yamato Transport. The base trucks themselves also saw a comprehensive update in May of this year.
