The vehicles are nine and 12 metres long and can accommodate about 90 passengers. Voy Santiago will operate them, replacing old orange-coloured diesel buses currently used in San Bernardo, El Bosque, La Pintana, and La Cisterna. Thus, the company’s entire fleet is now electric.

The order for these new buses was placed in January. The exact model is not mentioned in the press release; however, as the buses are said to be nine and 12 metres, it is safe to assume that one of the models is the E9. It has a battery capacity of 255 kWh. The 12-metre bus could either be the U12 or the E12Pro, both fitted with a 422-kWh battery.

According to the Chilean government, there are now 2,480 electric buses in operation in the Red Metropolitana de Movilidad, Santiago’s public transport system consisting of bus and underground service. The vehicles come from various manufacturers.

Incidentally, this is not the first time electric buses from Yutong have reached the Chilean capital. The Chinese company delivered electric EV buses to Santiago de Chile at the beginning of 2019, fulfilling an order from 2018. In addition to Yutong, BYD provides electric buses to Santiago de Chile.
