BRP had already announced its intention to turn Can-Am into an electric motorbike brand in 2022 – and now the time has come. Production of the first two models is set to start in the fourth quarter of 2024, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2025.

According to the manufacturer, the Can-Am Pulse is made “for the energy of city life,” while the Can-Am Origin is “for adventure beyond city limits.” Both models are powered by the new in-house Rotax E-Power engine, which has an output of either 11 kW or 35 kW. They also come with standard with an 8.9 kWh battery. It can be charged from 20 to 80 per cent in less than an hour.

According to BRP, the unique selling point of both models is the liquid-cooled system, which includes the battery, charger, inverter and motor. The system ensures considerably slower battery degradation and optimises range and charging time at the same time. it allows the Can-Am Pulse an estimated range of up to 160 kilometres in city traffic and the Can-Am Origin an estimated range of up to 145 kilometres in city traffic.

The two models in detail: The Can-Am Pulse is a so-called naked bike and was developed for commuting and city rides. The machine has a large 10.25-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay. it offers four different riding modes – Normal, Sport+, ECO and Rain – while the KYB suspension with 140 mm travel on the fork provides a sporty ride feel.

The Can-Am Origin features the same advanced Active ReGen and connectivity technology as the Pulse. The high ground clearance and “full KYB suspension with 255mm of travel up front and adjustability in the rear” are said to “inspire confidece off the beaten path.” The Can-Am Origin offers six riding modes- Normal, Sport, ECO, Rain, Off-Road and Off-Road+.

Today, we are reclaiming our two-wheel heritage by bringing new excitement to the electric motorcycle industry,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP. “50 years ago, Can-Am celebrated many victories with its Track ‘n Trail motorcycles, and we are bringing that pedigree back with a focus on modern electric power, connectivity and thrill. We intend to become a global leader in that space with true innovation designed to simplify the riding experience for new riders and introduce electric motorcycles to all.”

The all-electric Can-Am Pulse and Can-Am Origin motorbike models are now available for pre-order at select BRP dealers in France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, the United States and Canada.
