First Polestar 4 units delivered to European customers
Polestar announced that it will not stop with the three European markets mentioned. “Deliveries across other European markets [are] set to accelerate in the coming weeks,” the carmaker says. Polestar announced at the model premiere in April 2023 that deliveries of the Polestar 4 would take place in 2024. With the launch in Germany, Norway, and Sweden, the start has now been made.
As reported, the Polestar 4 will also roll off the production line in Busan, South Korea, from the second half of 2025 for the local and North American markets – in the form of contract manufacturing by Renault Korea Motors. With this expanded production base, the Swedish-Chinese brand has announced that it will be able to produce and supply more Polestar 4s worldwide.
“With Polestar 3 on the road since summer, this is the next important milestone for us in 2024 as we make our first European deliveries of Polestar 4 and give our customers even more choice,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “With three models, Polestar is positioning itself as the design-led premium luxury electric car brand in the global EV market.”
As Polestar numbers its models chronologically, it is not possible to deduce the size or segment from the code number 4. In fact, the Polestar 4 is positioned as an SUV coupé – both in terms of size and price – between the Polestar 2 mid-size saloon and the larger Polestar 3 SUV.
The Polestar 4 is based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which has formed the basis for numerous electric vehicles in recent years. The Polestar 4 adopts the permanently excited synchronous motors from the platform. The all-wheel drive version has a system output of 400 kW and a torque of 686 Nm. In addition to the dual-motor model, there will also be a single-motor variant with rear-wheel drive at a later date – with 200 kW of power and 343 Nm of torque. The battery has an energy content of 102 kWh and thus enables ranges of up to 600 kilometres.
The model is in the D-segment, so at 4.84 metres long and 2.14 metres wide, the Polestar 4 is no small car. It is 1.54 metres high and has a wheelbase of 2.999 metres. The vehicle was designed as an SUV coupé from the outset and was not derived from an SUV model. According to the company, there should, therefore, be no compromise on rear headroom – in fact, there are also adjustable seats in the rear.
One of the most striking features of the Polestar 4’s bodywork is the lack of a rear window – the Polestar 5 saloon will also do without a classic rear window. Ingenlath speaks of a “virtual rear window” and a “world-class digital rear-view mirror.”
