Rebecca Tinucci confirmed on LinkedIn that she will soon be joining Uber. The manager will start on 16 September as Head of Sustainability, reporting to Andrew Macdonald, Head of Uber’s mobility business. As is well known, the Uber fleet is to become purely electric by 2040. It is one of the key goals that Tinucci is now working towards.

The former Tesla manager describes this sustainability goal as “an audacious, important challenge to attack.” In her LinkedIn statement, she also explains: “Autonomy, electric vehicles, and robotics will reshape our world in the next 20 years and usher in an unprecedented opportunity for a more sustainable future. And Uber sits at the intersection of it all.”

Macdonald emphasises that Tinucci’s deep expertise and relationships across the automotive industry “will be an incredible asset to the Uber team.” The manager was previously head of Tesla’s Supercharger team before Tesla CEO Elon Musk axed most of the team as part of extensive cost-cutting measures. She confirmed she was leaving Tesla in May. Tinucci became one of the symbolic figures of the latest wave of redundancies at Tesla. Musk is said to have clashed with her because she wanted to lay off fewer people in her department than Musk had demanded.
