The new all-wheel-drive variant, which is titled ‘4MOTION’ features an impressive system power of 250 kW, allowing the vehicle to tow trailers with up to 1,800 kg weight. For a few weeks now, the classic ID. Buzz with a long wheelbase and up to seven seats has been in production in Hanover for a few weeks now – in this variant, the wheelbase has been stretched by 25 centimetres to 3.25 meters, making the vehicle 4.96 instead of 4.71 meters in length. Like the ID. Buzz with a short wheelbase, the long-wheelbase version uses the 210 kW APP0550 engine. However, the long wheelbase version has an 86 kWh battery for up to 487 kilometres according to WLTP. The short wheelbase version has 79 kWh, with a maximum WLTP range of 461 kilometres. The permissible total weight of the long-wheelbase version increases from 3,000 to 3,125 kilograms.
Previously, the most affordable ID. Buzz cost from 60,892 euros. With the Pure and Freestyle versions, VW Commercial Vehicles is now extending the range downwards. The duo costs significantly less (Pure: from 54,127 euros; Freestyle: from 49,998 euros), but has also been technically slimmed down. For example, the manufacturer is introducing a small battery with 59 kWh in the new entry-level versions. The rear-wheel drive has an output of 125 kW and the range has been reduced to 330 km according to WLTP. The DC charging power has also been reduced to 165 kW.
There are differences between the two variants in terms of equipment: the ID. Buzz Freestyle is characterized by black foiling in the lower part of the doors, dark-grained bumpers and 18-inch wheels with silver full covers. The standard colour is ‘Candy white’. The new Pure version positioned above it (unlike the Freestyle) is on the same level as the higher-positioned Pro models in terms of assistance systems ex-works. Standard equipment also includes features such as automatic air conditioning, folding tables on the backrests of the front seats and LED headlights and tail lights.
VW Commercial Vehicles is launching the GTX in the two lengths described above. The short version houses the 79 kWh battery, and the long version the 86 kWh battery. In both cases, the sporty MEB van has a second electric motor on the front axle and thus achieves an output of 250 kW. The new top models have a range of up to 423 and 475 km respectively, and cost from 73,102 and 74,928 euros. VW Commercial Vehicles emphasizes the “exclusive exterior and interior equipment” of the GTX and stresses that the model is designed for performance and high trailer loads. When the full peak power is called up, the ID. Buzz GTX with a 79 kWh battery accelerates to 100 kph in 6.1 seconds. The maximum towing capacity is up to 1,800 kg (braked, on a 12% gradient).
Together with the new all-wheel-drive ID. Buzz Cargo for the commercial sector, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles describes the two GTX models tailored for private use as “the most powerful Bullis of all time”. The Cargo version can be configured and ordered from 50,355 euros. However, this is the net price. Including 19 per cent VAT, the price would be 59,922 euros. This is for comparison with the other versions for the back of the head. The ID. Buzz Cargo with all-wheel drive has an output of 250 kW like the GTX models, but only offers the 79 kWh battery option for up to 432 km. DC charging is possible with up to 185 kW and the higher towing capacity of 1,800 kg also applies here with brakes.
By the way: Since the resumption of production at the end of July, the ID. Buzz and the T7 Multivan have each been built on a separate line in Hanover. Until the beginning of July, three models, including the T6.1, were still running on two lines.
