As the British King plans to electrify the entire royal fleet, Buckingham Palace could soon receive an infrastructure update. Up to 27 EV chargers could be installed there.

Moreover, a letter to Westminster Council said that other Royal Households could also receive their own charging infrastructure in the coming years “if the trial proves successful.” Kensington Palace, the Royal Mews in Marlborough House, and Windsor Castle already have a place for EVs to plug in.

King Charles hopes to electrify the entire Royal Fleet in the coming years. He was already the first British Royal to drive an electric car, namely an EV400 HSE Jaguar I-Pace.

“After trialling the EV chargers for a few years, The Royal Household intends to take a step forward and shift their car fleet from petrol to electric vehicles,” the letter states. “This proposal, not only aims to address the reduction of carbon footprint at Buckingham Palace grounds, but as well, aims to support the needs of visitors, staff and local residents.”

It is not clear yet when the above-mentioned charging station will be installed. Either way, Westminster Council officials must first sign off on the undertaking.
