Kempower secures type certification in California
According to tests in mid-June, Kempower’s DC charging products “demonstrated high accuracy and reliability, with all repeatability tests resulting in less than 1.0% error,” the company writes. That means the manufacturer’s hardware measures energy dispensed almost precisely, while the error margin is “always in favour of the consumer.”
Kempower also notes that its accuracy results were allegedly “among the best [the CTEP Evaluator] has ever measured.”
“This milestone not only enhances our product portfolio but also strengthens our partnership with industry leaders. CTEP certification is essential for operating commercial EVSE in California, the largest EV market in North America, comparable to Germany in Europe,” says Jussi Vanhanen, Chief Market Officer.
“Achieving CTEP certification demonstrates our commitment to delivering high accuracy charging to protect our customers. Kempower’s base model products performed to the best accuracy class of 2.0—similar to commonly used third party DC meters—providing lower cost options with exceptional performance, consistently favoring consumers,” says Somia Youssef, Product Specialist for North America who led the certification process.
Kempower opened a production facility in Durham County in the US state of North Carolina in June. It is where the manufacturer makes its charging infrastructure for the US and Canadian markets. It, for instance, supplies the hardware to National Car Charging for an exclusive contract with the state of California to set up non-networked DC fast chargers.
