Audi brings small battery to Q6 e-tron

Audi is offering a new basic version of the Q6 e-tron with a smaller battery. The 83 kWh battery reduces the range, but also the entry-level price: the Q6 e-tron is now available in Germany from 63,500 euros - it will be slightly cheaper until the end of September.

The model known simply as the Q6 e-tron is the basic version that Audi had already announced at the world premiere in March. In addition to the two all-wheel-drive models presented at that time, a model ‘with a focus on efficiency and range’ (the Q6 e-tron Performance with a large battery and rear-wheel drive presented in May) and a more affordable rear-wheel drive model with a small battery were to follow.

The Q6 e-tron without a further name suffix is now available to order: for 63,500 euros, there is a battery with ten instead of the previous twelve modules in the underbody. The chemistry of the cells is the same for both battery variants, the difference lies in the number of modules installed – and therefore also the number of cells, which is reduced from 180 to 150. With ten modules, the gross energy content is 83 kWh, of which 75.8 kWh are net-usable. With twelve modules, it is 100 kWh gross and 94.9 kWh net. The range of the new base model is up to 533 kilometres according to WLTP.

The smaller battery also reduces the maximum charging power slightly – from 260/270 kW with the large battery to 225 kW. However, according to Audi, the charging time of ten to 80 per cent should remain the same at 21 minutes. An 11 kW onboard charger is installed ex-works for AC charging, which means that a complete charging process takes eight hours.

Values in brackets: With Launch Control

The basic Q6 is powered by a permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle. As with fast charging, the output here is also slightly lower than that of the Q6 e-tron Performance: Audi specifies an output of 185 kW and, for a short time, 201 kW when starting with Launch Control. The maximum torque of 450 Nm is also slightly lower than the rear-wheel drive model with a large battery. All other drive data can be found in the table.

However, there are no compromises in terms of storage space and towing capacity: the boot still has a capacity of 526 litres and there is also a 64-litre frunk under the bonnet. The towing capacity (braked) is 2,000 kilograms, which also applies to the Q6 e-tron Performance – only the all-wheel drive models can tow up to 2,400 kilograms. However, the drawbar load (100 kg) and roof load (75 kg) are the same for all derivatives of the PPE electric vehicle built in Ingolstadt.

With an unladen weight of just 2,200 kilograms, the Q6 e-tron with the small battery is only 75 kilograms lighter than the Performance version with the large battery. The payload is 540 kilograms, which means that the permissible total weight of the Q6 e-tron (without the name suffix) is 2,740 kilograms.

The aforementioned base price of 63,500 euros is the list price in Germany. Until the end of September, however, the model is available from 61,872 euros with a four per cent ‘advantage bonus’. Audi no longer offers classic equipment lines in this sense, but only the ‘Edition One Blue’ and ‘Edition One Grey’ (from 80,000 and 78,800 euros respectively) – however, Audi will only offer the ‘Edition One’ for a certain time after the market launch.
