Schaeffler to add 5,000 EV chargers by 2030 worldwide

Schaeffler is expanding its EV charging network across Europe. The company announced that it would add more than 5,000 new charging points by the end of the decade - more than half of which will be located in Europe.

Specifically, Schaeffler says that a total of 3,000 EV charging points will be installed in Europe by 2030. However, it does not mention any specific location for the 3,000 chargers in Europe or the remaining 2,000 charge points. The company only writes that “more than 5,000 additional charging points for electric vehicles are to be constructed worldwide by 2030,” and that the measure is part of its sustainability programme.

Some of the chargers could be installed in the US. Schaeffler does operate production sites there and is constructing a factory in Dover, in the US state of Ohio.

The company has launched two pilot projects in Herzogenaurach and Schweinfurt, two cities in the German state of Bavaria. In the case of the former, a parking lot of the Schaeffler headquarters in Herzogenaurach was fitted with ten charging stations for employees to plug in. Each station has two charge points and delivers up to 22 kW. The location is said to see another 245 charging points installed by 2025.

In Schweinfurt, a further 122 EV charging points will be installed following the expansion of the electrical infrastructure there. The charge points will be commissioned in 2025.

22kw?, you must be joking. That would be ok if you have all day to wait so I suppose they are not aimed at motorists on the move because they would need at least 125kw
