Kuehne+Nagel expands electric truck fleet
One of the vehicles has already been in use for some time as part of a test phase at Kühne+Nagel Germany’s Hamburg site. Following the successful completion of the tests, this vehicle will now be permanently added to the Hamburg fleet and supplemented by another electric truck of the same design. In addition, two vehicles each will go to the Limbach-Oberfrohna site in Saxony and to Straubing in Bavaria.
Details of the six vehicles are not given in the press release from Renault Trucks Germany, but the electric 16-tonne E-Tech D is available in a wide range of variants. Depending on requirements, the wheelbase can be between 3.80 and 6.50 metres, while the energy content of the installed batteries can also vary between 200 and 565 kWh – in the latter case, a WLTP range of up to 560 kilometres is possible.
It is worth taking a look at France, where Kuehne+Nagel has had 23 E-Tech Ds in operation since 2023. In France, there are vehicles on the road with two different body variants, each of which can load 18 or 21 pallets. The German logistics company has opted for five battery packs of 66 kWh each with a total energy content of 330 kWh. This is sufficient, as the vehicles travel an average of 180 kilometres a day, according to the information available at the time. Similar daily mileages can be expected for the distribution traffic around the German logistics centres.
Kuehne+Nagel is committed to the scientific goals of the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). The company has set itself the goal of offsetting direct and unavoidable CO2 emissions since 2020. In addition, Kuehne+Nagel wants to reduce its CO2 footprint in logistics by 33 per cent by the end of 2030. One offer to its own customers is the use of e-trucks – with Renault Trucks as a partner.
“It is our corporate responsibility to actively promote decarbonisation in logistics,” says Tobias Jerschke, CEO of Kuehne+Nagel Germany. “The new e-trucks from Renault Trucks are another important building block in the successful implementation of our electrification strategy in land transport as part of our Roadmap 2026.”
“I am very pleased to be working with Kühne+Nagel,” says Frederic Ruesche, Managing Director of Renault Trucks Germany. “It is clear that we can only tackle climate change together. By working together with one of the largest logistics and goods transfer companies, Kühne+Nagel, we can significantly reduce CO2 emissions. We are heading in the right direction.”
