VW introduces the ID.3 GTX Performance for 52,295 euros
Volkswagen unveiled the new top model in the ID.3 series in mid-March – in two variants: The ID.3 GTX has the familiar 210 kW output of the APP550 engine. Above this is the ID.3 GTX Performance, which even delivers 240 kW. In Germany, they are priced from €50,795 (ID.3 GTX) and €52,295 (ID.3 GTX Performance) respectively – in each case minus an environmental bonus of €3,570, which Volkswagen is currently offering for all ID. models.
A brief look back: as the regular ID.3 remained with the 150 kW electric motor even during its model update last spring and also after the introduction of the new drive generation in the ID.4/ID.5, it was already obvious that the new APP550 unit would be reserved for the sharper ID.3 GTX. And that’s exactly what happened – in two versions. In both power levels – 210 and 240 kW – the electric motor develops a maximum torque of 545 Nm, which should be enough for 5.7 seconds (GTX Performance) from a standstill to 100 kph. The top speed increases to up to 200 kph (GTX Performance). All comparative values – including those of the ID.3 variants further down the range – can be found in this overview:

The table shows that the sportier variants have a slightly improved battery with 79 kWh energy content (net) instead of the familiar 77 kWh. In gross terms, 84 kilowatt hours are installed in the underbody. According to VW, the DC charging capacity is up to 185 kW, with a charging time (10 – 80% SoC) of 26 minutes. The combined WLTP range of the ID.3 GTX is 604 kilometres, that of the Performance version 601 kilometres.
Externally, the GTX electric models are distinguished by, among other things, a new independent black air intake with a diamond design and an individualised light signature at the front. Black 20-inch rims can be ordered as an option. According to VW, the interior also boasts “numerous GTX-specific features.”
According to the manufacturer, the new ID.3 GTX Performance, which unlike the GTX is only now available to order, features the latest generation of software and infotainment with a 12.9-inch display, a voice assistant with ChatGPT and an improved operating concept. An augmented reality head-up display, a newly designed wellness app and a premium sound system from Harman Kardon are also available for an additional charge. The standard safety and driving assistants (including Cruise Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition) can be optionally supplemented by a so-called “Connected Travel Assist” with online data.
Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Technical Development, comments: “With its spontaneous and superior power delivery, the new ID.3 GTX Performance is for me the electric counterpart to our sporty compact car icon, the Golf GTI Clubsport. Of course, an electric drive and a turbocharged petrol engine each have their own unique character. Yet the ID.3 GTX Performance and the Golf GTI Clubsport share the same fascinating lightness when they accelerate.”
Update 28 August 2024
The ID.3 GTX Performance is now also available in the UK. According to an official press release, it “can be ordered through any Volkswagen UK Retailer from 29 August.” Prices start at £46,225 (about 54,858 euros), including VAT.
