There are a total of five variants, all with a 160 kW electric drive. The difference is the battery. The two less expensive versions, which start at 112,800 and 122,800 yuan, have a battery with a capacity of 49.52 kWh. According to the Chinese testing cycle, that allows the EV to go up to 440 kilometres on one charge. The three other variants, which sell for a minimum of 128,800, 138,800, and 148,800 yuan, come with a 60.22 kWh battery, increasing the CLTC range to 530 kilometres.

All customers ordering before 1 October can benefit from a 3,000 yuan discount (384 euros).

At 4,615 mm long, 1,901 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, the Galaxy E5 is a compact SUV with dimensions similar to the VW ID.4. Its  2,570 mm wheelbase is also similar. The EV is based on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA), which is derived from the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). You can read a more in-depth presentation of the electric vehicle here.

The EV is currently only sold in China, but Geely does point put that is has “has tested, designed and completed both left- and right-hand drive versions of the E5” and that it has been “developed for the global market from the very beginning.” However, there is no mention yet as to when the electric SUV could launch abroad.

Moreover, the Galaxy E5 is the first to use the Geely’s Aegis Short Blade Battery. It is based on an LFP chemistry and has an energy density of 192 Wh/kg. Blade batteries are LFP cells with a unique form factor. The cells are very long, making them look like the blade of a sword. The blade battery is a cell-to-pack technology, meaning cells are installed directly in the battery pack and not grouped into individual modules first. That allows for higher energy density at the pack level. Geely had presented its version in June of this year.

The Geely brand Galaxy launched last year. The first BEV, Galaxy E8, went on sale in China in January. According to Geely, it will offer seven Galaxy models by 2025: four plug-in hybrids from the L series and three battery-electric cars from the E series. The Galaxy L7 SUV and the Galaxy L6 sedan, both PHEVs, were also launched in 2023.
