Canada funds 660 new Level 2 chargers in Nova Scotia

Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources will fund the installation of 660 public Level 2 chargers in Nova Scotia, in the east of the country. The Polycorp Group of Companies will install the majority, and 292 Main Street Developments Limited will install the rest.

The former will receive 3,054,725 million CAD (about 2 million euros) to set up a total of 634 Level 2 chargers and nine multi-unit residential buildings in the Canadian province. 292 Main Street Developments Limited will get 95,596 CAD (about 63,000 euros) for 26 chargers at its  Latitude 45 Suites. The company adds that it will also offer an internal EV car-sharing programme.

According to the official press release, all 660 chargers will be installed by December 2024.

“Today’s investment is an important one for ensuring access to reliable EV charging infrastructure outside of major urban centers,” says Kody Blois, Member of Parliament for Kings–Hants. “I know the investment will help contribute to the further uptake of zero-emission vehicles in communities across East Hants.”

Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Jonathan Wilkinson, adds: “We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more available where Canadians live, work, travel and play. Investing in more EV chargers, like the ones announced today in Nova Scotia, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a strong, healthy net-zero future.”

The funding is provided under the country’s ‘Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure program,’ which supports “the installation of EV chargers in multi-unit residential buildings, at workplaces, on-street, in public places, and where EV fleets are serviced.” In total, the Canadian government has earmarked more than one billion Canadian dollars in funding for the deployment of charging infrastructure across the country.
