13 new MAN electric buses for Munich MVG

Stadtwerke München (SWM) is currently putting 13 new electric solo buses into operation for Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG). These will be supplied by MAN Truck & Bus. With the delivery and commissioning, MVG's electric bus fleet will grow to 71 vehicles.

The new twelve-metre-long MAN Lion’s City E buses have 45 seats. They are powered by nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries. With a total capacity of 480 kWh, they take the vehicles around 250 kilometres under realistic conditions. The manufacturer specifies a technical range of 350 km. The model has a continuous output of 160 kW and a peak output of 240 kW.

The 13 new MAN buses come from orders placed by MVG with three manufacturers in the summer of 2023, which are subsidised by the now-expired “Directive on the promotion of alternative drives for buses in passenger transport” from the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport.

In addition to the MAN buses, 30 electric articulated buses from the manufacturer Daimler Buses are expected by the end of the year, with a further 28 electric articulated buses from Ebusco to be added by mid-2025. MVG’s electric bus fleet will thus grow to 129 vehicles by next year and will then be more than twice as large as before.
