Xpeng announces HPC charger with up to 800 kW

Xpeng will launch its S5 fast charging station in the third quarter of 2024, which will offer up to 800 kW of power. Currently, the company's most powerful charger is the S4 column, which launched in 2022.

The newly announced S5 Supercharger is liquid-cooled and has a maximum output current of 800 amps and a maximum output voltage of 1,000 volts, resulting in up to 800 kW of power. This was reported by the CN EV Post portal, citing a live-streamed technology event with a speech by He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of Xpeng.

The S5 is expected to go into operation in the third quarter of 2024 and will join the S4, which Xpeng launched on the Chinese market in August 2022 and has a maximum output of 480 kW. According to CN EV Post, Xpeng currently has 1,300 charging stations in its home market, including 1,000 supercharging stations. By 2026, the company wants to operate 10,000 charging stations, including 4,500 liquid-cooled fast-charging stations.

China’s up-and-coming electric car manufacturers are not only competing fiercely in terms of electric vehicles, but also in the development of charging stations. In December, for example, Nio presented a 640 kW charger in addition to the fourth generation of its battery exchange station.
