Mercedes-Benz Trucks concludes European tour of the eActros 600
Specifically, the two vehicles covered 15,269 and 15,939 kilometres, respectively – each with a total payload of 40 tonnes. During the tour, the developers charged the two long-distance trucks exclusively at public charging points. You can read more about the background and procedures of the development trip in our detailed article – electrive was able to accompany the ‘eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024’ on a stage through Norway.
The two vehicles started in Frankfurt am Main on 11 June. From there, they travelled north through Germany – after further stages through Denmark, Sweden and Norway (including our ride-along), the two prototypes reached the North Cape at the end of June. From there, they travelled overland to the southernmost point of Europe: Tarifa in Spain. They arrived there in mid-July. From Tarifa, they returned to Germany – with a detour via the Benelux countries. Specifically, they travelled through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
The two test vehicles mastered the tour with top marks. We can look back on almost seven weeks of exciting experiences and encounters that enabled us to collect many valuable insights,” says Christof Weber, Head of Global Testing Mercedes-Benz Trucks. “Such a monumental trip requires meticulous preparation and planning, especially with regard to charging at public infrastructure. Even if our experiences with charging stops varied greatly in some cases, it was apparent that battery-electric long-distance haulage is feasible. The eActros 600’s 500 kilometers range without intermediate charging was always a reliable planning factor.”
Weber has not yet gone into more detail. The longest single distance covered on the way to the North Cape was 480 kilometres, without intermediate charging. On our stage from Lillehammer to Stryn, it was just over 330 kilometres – with 40 per cent charge remaining at the destination. The onboard computer indicated a range of a further 220 kilometres with the current consumption, i.e. 550 kilometres in total.
However, details from the manufacturer are still to follow: According to the company, it intends to provide information on the specific findings and results from the ‘Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024’ at the IAA Transportation in Hanover, Germany, in September.
