First Hydrogen looks to bring H2 utility van to Europe
First Hydrogen has locations in Vancouver and Montreal in Canada, as well as London in the UK. Since the company already has a German website, it is safe to assume that First Hydrogen could offer its fuel-cell-powered transporter in the country at a later date. However, that has yet to be confirmed. Either way, First Hydrogen has identified the European Union as a market with great potential. “The [EU] Commission will intensify its cooperation with international partners on clean hydrogen deployment and the development of hydrogen markets. An additional €200 million invested by the Commission will be used to support hydrogen ecosystems in specific geographical areas, such as ports, industrial zones, airports, etc.), also known as hydrogen valleys,” the company writes.
California, which just launched the first hydrogen hub in the US, is another interesting market, First Hydrogen points out.
The manufacturer offers a hydrogen-powered utility van. According to the company website, it offers between 600 and 1,000 km of range and is available as a panel van and chassis cab version. The “electric drive units” offer 220 to 300 kW peak, while the fuel cell system has a net power of 90 kW. As mentioned above, the van has been tested in the UK “in various real-world conditions.”
“We are excited to show markets the advantages of a hydrogen-power-fuel-cell vehicle,” says Balraj Mann, Group CEO of First Hydrogen. “During the Wales and West Utilities trial, in wintery conditions, we were able to demonstrate our FCEV was able to sustain performance levels, while with a battery electric vehicle, there is a loss of performance the colder the weather. Green hydrogen provides sustainability and zero emission reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to decarbonization goals.”
