Royal Mail adds 2,100 electric delivery vans to its fleet
As mentioned above, the new electric vehicles will delivered from August 2024. Royal Mail does not mention when deliveries will be completed but says it “plans for more than half to be on the streets in time for the Christmas shopping period.” That would thus mean by the end of November.
Most of the vans will be charged at Royal Mail’s delivery offices with “100% renewable electricity supply.” The CEP provider aims to be Net-Zero by 2040, and electric mobility is a central pillar. According to Royal Mail, the additional 2,100 electric vans will help the company save around 6,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Royal Mail did not share any details about the type of electric vans it ordered. The press image shows an all-electric Peugeot e-Partner, which the company already procured in 2020 and 2022.
Royal Mail says it already has the largest electric delivery fleet in the UK, with about 5,000 electric vans. The addition of the new vans will increase that number to more than 7,000.
“We are proud to take another big step towards our target to be Net-Zero by 2040,” said Jenny Hall, Director of Corporate Affairs at Royal Mail. “Electric vehicles provide a wide range of benefits, reducing noise and air pollution in local communities as well as reducing our impact on the environment. We want as many customers as possible can benefit from zero-emission deliveries to their doorstep.”
