Hyundai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with several established CPOs in Indonesia, including Casion, Voltron, Daya Green, Utomo Charge+, and Buzz, at the annual Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Hyundai EV customers will have access to approximately 97% of private charging stations in the country when the company and its partners fully deploy the new ecosystem.

Along with the expansion of its EV charging network, Hyundai introduced a new complimentary charging programme in Indonesia. Customers can now charge their Hyundai EV up to 50 kWh/month for a year. The limited capacity suggests that the scheme is struggling with popularity at the moment.

Hyundai currently offers the Kona Electric in Indonesia with 48.9 kWh and 66 kWh battery pack options and the Ioniq 5 with a choice of 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh units. The company also sells the Ioniq 6 there, with a standard-fit 77.4 kWh battery pack. As a result, customers may finish their monthly charging quota in only one or two charging sessions. Barring the standard-range Kona Electric, drivers cannot fully charge their EV in the same month on the free offering.

Hyundai is keen on Indonesia’s potential for EVs, given the fact that it holds the world’s largest nickel reserves, totalling 21 million tonnes. The company launched the second-gen Kona Electric as the country’s first EV featuring locally produced batteries at GIIAS. According to a detikoto report, the small EV boasts more than 60% localisation, the highest for any EV in Indonesia.

Indonesia is the first international market where Hyundai locally builds the Ioniq 5 N. The company just assembles the car from imported knocked-down kits, but that still is a sign of the country’s significance for the South Korean automaker. According to a CNN Indonesia report, Hyundai is also considering exporting the high-performance EV to other ASEAN nations and countries in the Middle East and Africa regions.
