Fiat Grande Panda Electric to start below 25,000 euros
Fiat unveiled the Grande Panda in mid-June 2024, but the Italian Stellantis brand had not announced the price. However, in an announcement to mark Fiat’s 125th birthday and the premiere of the Fiat 500 Electric’ Giorgio Armani’ (which was created in collaboration with the Italian fashion designer), it has now officially stated that the EV “will start from less than €25,000.”
The Grande Panda Elektro is 3.99 metres long, 1.57 metres high and 1.76 metres wide. There is space for up to five passengers, and the boot has a capacity of 361 litres. The model uses the CMP Smart Car platform from Stellantis, meaning it has the same drive system as the Citroën ë-C3 or Opel Frontera Electric: the battery with LFP cells from SVOLT has an energy content of 44 kWh and enables a range of around 320 kilometres in the similarly sized Citroën – which should also be possible in the Grande Panda. The electric motor delivers 83 kW.
While the ë-C3 is built in Trnava, Slovakia, Stellantis plans to manufacture the Fiat on the same platform in Serbia. The carmaker first announced in 2022 that it would convert its Kragujevac plant for the production of electric cars. The first model, the Fiat Grande Panda, has now been finalised.
Stellantis has already built a few units there, and according to Serbian media reports, test production has started. The processes and systems are now to be optimised over the summer so that series production can begin as planned in October with larger quantities.
Stellantis has invested a total of 190 million euros in modernising the plant. The Serbian government subsidised just under a quarter of this, specifically 48 million euros. The government led by President Aleksandar Vučić has supported the project, as it is the first electric car production facility in the Balkans, and politicians in Belgrade hope that production in Kragujevac will add 0.5 percentage points to the country’s GDP in the coming year. Stellantis employs around 1,000 people there directly, with others involved via suppliers.
The Serbian government will also subsidise the purchase of the vehicle – with up to 7,000 euros. With an entry-level price of less than 25,000 euros, the Grande Panda Electric will thus be available there from around 18,000 euros, making it slightly cheaper than the hybrid version, which is expected to start at 19,000 euros.
