USA: Volvo stops online orders for its EX30

Following the postponed launch of the small electric SUV in the United States, Volvo is now no longer accepting reservations for the EX30 online. Future customers can only choose to stay updated.

Volvo Cars initially planned to produce the EX30 for the US market in China. But because Washington raised import duties on China-made EVs from 25 to 100 per cent, the carmaker decided to import the EV from Belgium instead. As a result, the electric SUV will not arrive in the US by the end of 2024, but customers will have to wait until 2025.

However, it was still possible to reserve the EX30. Now, the ‘Reserve’ button has been replaced by a ‘Keep me updated’ button. According to US media, reserving the car through a dealership should still be possible. However, this has not been confirmed.

Volvo Cars has not yet revealed if any of these changes will affect the prices. Initially, the EX30 was to sell from $34,950 to $46,600, excluding a $1,295 destination fee. It has an EPA-estimated range of up to 275 miles.

Volvo initially wanted the EX30 to become its best-selling model this year – worldwide. While it might still achieve its goal in Europe, US customers will have to continue to wait.
