Fastned is building two HPC charge parks near Barcelona

Fastned is expanding its presence in Spain with two more fast-charging hubs. A new agreement with motorway operator Autopistas provides for the construction of 16 charging stations, each with a capacity of up to 400 kW, at the Garraf Nord and Garraf Süd service stations in the province of Barcelona.

The C-32 is an important motorway along Catalonia’s coast. The service stations mentioned are located in the municipalities of Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cubelles, a few kilometres southwest of Barcelona. On a map published by Fastned, they are already marked as ‘Under construction’.

Fastned announced its expansion into Spain in January 2024 when it unveiled plans for its first fast-charging site near Madrid. According to the current map, this is not yet under construction or in operation. Instead, nine locations are marked as ‘planned’ – six are located around the Spanish capital. Four of these also appear to be located at motorway service areas, as two sites point to the same location – i.e. on both sides of the motorway. Two further sites are located in the northeast around Barcelona, and another is in the south, in the Murcia area.

Even though Fastned has greater ambitions in Spain, only the two locations near Barcelona have been confirmed for now. “Our goal is to build stations that offer drivers reliable fast charging services, transforming the electric vehicle driving experience,” says Inma Cima, Fastned Country Manager in Spain. “We are therefore very pleased with the agreement we have signed with Abertis, which in addition to this project in El Garraf encompasses a wider collaboration with more future projects.”
