Audi brings back smaller battery for the Q4 e-tron

Audi is expanding its electric Q4 e-tron series with a new entry-level variant. In Germany, the Audi Q4 35 e-tron with a 55-kWh battery costs 45,600 euros, and the Sportback offshoot 47,600 euros.

Audi already had a Q4 35 e-tron on offer, but the variant with a 125 kW drive and 52 kWh battery was removed from the model range in October 2022. The move came when semiconductors were in short supply, which is why the manufacturers installed the available chips in higher-priced, more profitable variants. Since then, the Q4 e-tron has been available with the large 77 kWh battery – even after introducing the new APP550 electric motor.

The model now returns under the same name but with slightly different technology. The battery has an energy content of 55 kWh, of which 52 kWh is usable. That should ensure a WLTP range of up to 365 kilometres for the Sportback and 355 kilometres for the SUV. There are no changes to the drive system, which remains at 125 kW.

As with the other MEB models, the improved cell chemistry ensures a higher energy density and noticeably better charging performance. That is 145 kW at peak, and the standard charging process from 10 to 80 per cent should take 25 minutes.

The base variant also brings an innovation to the entire Q4-e-tron series, which will also be available for the other variants. The ‘Audi Application Store’ will be integrated into the infotainment system, through which apps such as Spotify and Audible can be downloaded (without a smartphone). The data connection runs via the vehicle and not via the smartphone. A data package with 25 GB for one year is already included and can be activated free of charge via Cubic Telecom – a separate registration is required for this.

There is also a comprehensive navigation update with more precise charging planning. “The desired battery charge level for the destination can be defined as a separate destination, or charging stations from specific providers, such as IONITY, can be selected. The smartphone interface connects the smartphone to the vehicle and seamlessly brings its content directly to the MMI touch display,” says Audi. ChatGPT is also integrated into the online voice input of all Q4 e-tron models.

In Germany, the Q4 35 e-tron is now available to order at prices starting from 45,600 euros, while the Q4 Sportback 35 e-tron starts at 47,600 euros. Standard equipment includes Audi MMI navigation plus, Audi connect navigation & infotainment and the fully digital 10.25-inch Audi virtual cockpit instrument cluster.
