Tesla delays robotaxi launch by two months
Tesla is reportedly postponing the presentation of its robotaxi by around two months. As Bloomberg reports, citing unnamed insiders who wished to remain anonymous, the unveiling of Tesla’s robotaxi is currently planned for October, around two months later than Elon Musk announced in April.
At the time, Musk had responded to the delay of the development of a $25,000 compact vehicle model with plans that the autonomously-driving robotaxi would be prioritized. “Elon’s directive is to go all in on robotaxi,” one source said. Both vehicles are designed on the same technology platform. The compact car was initially set to launch in mid-2025, however, it is now unclear when it will hit the market.
There has been no reaction from Tesla or Musk to the report so far, however, Bloomberg reports that the shares of “would-be taxi rivals” Uber and Lyft both surged on the news.
Update 17 July 2024
Elon Musk essentially confirmed the rumour that the presentation of the Robotaxi planned for 8 August will be postponed – allegedly by around two months. “Requested what I think is an important design change to the front, and extra time allows us to show off a few other things,” Musk wrote via social media.
