Shell Recharge opens Malaysia’s largest EV charging hub

The new EV charging station is an all-in-one charging hub, offering ten charging spots. Four bays share two 360 kW DC chargers, each with two CCS Type 2 charging guns. Six bays share three 22 kW AC chargers, each with two CCS Type 2 charging guns.

Each 360 kW charger can charge an EV at the maximum rate when only one car is using it. When two EVs plug in, it charges one at 270 kW and one at 90 kW. Shell Recharge charges MYR 2.8/kWh (EUR 0.55/kWh), but Porsche Taycan owners, thanks to a complimentary 3-year Shell Recharge Platinum membership, can avail the same service at MYR 0.80/kWh (EUR 0.16/kWh). The cost of using the 22 kW AC chargers is just MYR 1.30 kWh (EUR 0.26/kWh).

Shell Recharge charges a ‘reservation fee’Confirmation Fee’ of MYR 10 (EUR 2.0) for the 360 kW DC chargers and MYR 8 (EUR 1.6) for the 22 kW AC chargers but waives it if the customer claims his/her reserved charging bay within 10 minutes. After charging is complete, they have 15 minutes to leave the charging bay. In case customers do not empty the spot, Shell Recharge will charge an idle fee of MYR 10 (EUR 2.0)— MYR 5 (EUR 1.0) for Shell Recharge Platinum members—every 15 minutes in case of the 360 kW DC chargers and MYR 2 (EUR 0.4) every 15 minutes in case of the 22 kW AC chargers.

Shell first announced plans for the charging station in December 2023. The company collaborated with Porsche and hospitality company Genting Malaysia for its new EV charging hub in Genting Highlands. Shell set it up at Resorts World Genting, the local partner’s popular resort at the hilltop.

In addition to the new sky-high EV charging hub, Shell Recharge offers one of the longest cross-country high-performance charging (HPC) networks in Southeast Asia, linking Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. In Malaysia specifically, it has 22 HPC charging points at 11 locations along highways.
