Zeekr has introduced an electric mid-size SUV as the sixth model in its product line-up - the 7X. The company plans to market the new EV as a competitor of the Tesla Model Y.

Zeekr has developed the 7X, which it previously called by its codename ‘CX1E,’ on parent company Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA). The 7X is the SUV equivalent of the 007 electric sedan the company launched in 2023. Zeekr will reveal full details later, but it is possible that, as with the 007, it uses an integrated mega-casting rear-end aluminium body in the 7X. Typically, mega-casting increases the vehicle’s torsional stiffness, improving its responsiveness and handling.

Zeekr will install an 800-volt battery pack in the 7X, enabling customers to rapidly charge it without taking long breaks at public charging stations. In the top-end configuration, the company plans to employ a 165 kW motor in the front and a 310 kW motor in the rear to achieve a system output of 475 kW and a 0-100 kph acceleration time of 3 seconds. It will offer an air suspension optionally for customers who seek more comfort and versatility.

Zeekr designed and engineered the 7X strategically to project a visual dominance over the Tesla Model Y. The 7X stretches to 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,656 mm in height, so it is 75 mm longer, 9 mm wider, and 32 mm taller than the Model Y. Additionally, the Chinese model has a 35 mm longer wheelbase, measuring 2,925 mm.

The 7X has a commanding stance but features a modern crossover shape and some futuristic design cues. It embodies Zeeker’s new Hidden Energy design language, the prime evidence of which is the Stargate light band, a full-width light curtain above the headlamps. On the sides, frameless mirrors and doors, flush door handles, and a gentle kick in the beltline communicate sophistication. At the back, ‘Super Red’ sharp and ultra-slim tail lights emphasise the SUV’s sheer width and underline its high-tech nature.

Zeekr plans to release the 7X in China later this year. The company aims to become a prominent global brand and thus may introduce it in international markets within a year of domestic launch.
