Hess receives order for 51 electric buses from Lausanne

The Swiss bus manufacturer Hess has received an order for 51 electric buses from the public transport company of the city of Lausanne. Specifically, the order is for 37 lighTram 19 DC battery trolleybuses and 14 lighTram 25 DC trolleybuses. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2026.

Hess does not provide any details about the configuration chosen by Transports publics de la région lausannoise in the brief press release. There is also no information on the order volume.

Instead, Hess emphasises the public transport company’s confidence in its own products. After all, 100 Hess trolleybuses are already in operation in the city on Lake Leman. For the past four years, these have included twelve lighTram 25 DC trams travelling between Lutry and Prilly. Now 51 more electric buses are to be added to the transport company’s fleet.

However, the public transport operator is not only focussing on trolley variants: the first e-buses that are not trolley models have also been on the road in Lausanne since December last year. A total of five battery-electric buses are now in operation on route 24, and there are also plans to use them on other routes in order to gain experience of their performance in day-to-day operations.
