The vehicle order is broken down into several different types of vehicles, with 5,000 powertrains ordered for 9- and 12-metre electric bus models, while the other 50,000 powertrains are to be used for commercial vehicles. Deliveries of the components will start in early 2025, with the order to be completed within three years.

TEMICO was launched together with Mitsui in Bangalore in November 2023, and will start mass production next month, after receiving the required  ‘Bureau of Indian Standards’ (BIS) certification from the government. Director George Lien notes that the company is the second local EV powertrain manufacturer to launch in India, which the company will likely benefit from when the Indian government starts handing out contracts to electrify its bus system by 2030. Local bus manufacturers such as Olectra Greentech or Ashok Leyland, as well as the more globally known Tata Motors, also stand to profit from the change.

“This large order for EV powertrains marks an important breakthrough for Teco in the Indian market,” said Teco chairman Morris Li.
