The Leapmotor C16 features a rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout across the range and employs only one electric motor. In the EV variant, the electric motor produces 215 kW and 360 Nm of torque and allows it to finish a 0-100 kph sprint in 6.37 seconds. A 67.7 kWh LFP battery pack powers this motor and charging it from 30 to 80 per cent SoC takes approximately six hours through an AC charger and about 15 minutes through a DC charger. On a full charge, it gives the new electric SUV a CLTC range of 520 km.

In the EREV variant, the Leapmotor C16 switches to a lower-output electric motor with 170 kW and 320 Nm of torque and uses a 1.5-litre engine along with a 50-litre fuel tank as well. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 8.46 seconds. A 28.4 kWh LFP battery pack powers the electric motor and it takes approximately 3 hours for a 30-80 per cent charging session via an AC charger and about 30 minutes for the same via a DC charger. The EREV variant has a pure CLTC range of 200 km and a combined CLTC range of 1,095 km.

The Leapmotor C16 measures 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height and has a 2,825 mm wheelbase. The large SUV offers six seats and 209-1,022 litres of trunk space in both EV and EREV variants. It weighs 2,095 kg in the EREV variant and 2,065 kg in the EV variant.

The Leapmotor C16 features sleek headlights and rear combination lamps, 21-inch alloy wheels, flush-fitted door handles, a power tailgate with a memory function, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. Inside, a 10.25-inch driver information display, a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a facial recognition system, and a 15.6-inch roof-mounted fold-down entertainment screen are some of the main attractions on the tech front.

The first- and second-row seats offer power adjustment, heating, and ventilation functions. Additionally, the driver’s seat features a memory function, while passengers in the second row can utilise a fold-out tray table from the backrests of the front seats and recline the backrests of their seats to up to 145 degrees. In the third row, passengers can adjust the backrests by up to 10 degrees and access two USB ports.

The EV variant of Leapmotor’s C16 sells from 161,800 to 185,800 yuan (20,696 to 23,766 euros), while the EREV version costs between 155,800 and 179,800 yuan (19,929 and 22,999 euros).

In May, Stellantis and Leapmotor created a 51/49 joint venture called Leapmotor International to sell electric vehicles in Europe, India and Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. The new alliance company will commence operations in Europe by September and launch the Leapmotor T03 city car and the Leapmotor C10 mid-size SUV as its first products in the region. It has yet to confirm the Leapmotor C16 for any global market.
