Polestar 2 receives small design updates and more range
The Long Range Single Engine version has a range of up to 659 kilometres according to the WLTP. Previously, this variant features a standard range of 654 kilometres, so the increase for the 2025 model year is small. As reported, the big leap with 103 kilometres more took place in model year 2024, when the single-motor variants were switched from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive and major battery updates were introduced.
In Europe, the Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor benefits from an improved 70 kWh CATL battery with an increased range of up to 554 kilometres. This compares to 532 kilometres in the 2024 model year. The greater increase in range compared to the Long Range is primarily due to the new battery: The Standard Range model previously featured a 69 kWh battery with cells from LGES; now the cells (as with the Long Range battery) come from CATL.
The design changes for the 2025 model year do not affect the bodywork itself, but mainly details such as the paintwork: two new exterior colours are available for the mid-size saloon. The previous standard colour ‘Magnesium’ will be replaced by the grey shade ‘Vapour’ with a slight metallic effect. The ‘Thunder’ colour is being replaced by ‘Storm’, which was first seen on the Polestar 4. The company describes ‘Storm’ as a “dark aluminium colour”. Other exterior design updates also include a new 19-inch aero alloy wheel with aero inserts and a new 20-inch Pro Graphite alloy wheel, available when the Pro Pack is selected.
“Pro Pack” is also the keyword for another change: Polestar is adapting the optional packages to the structure of the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 for the 2025 model year. The climate package includes a heat pump, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and heating for the windscreen washer nozzles. The Pro package includes 20-inch alloy wheels and details in “Swedish Gold” on the seat belts and tyre valve caps. The Pilot package, the Plus package and the Performance packages make up the rest of the package structure.
As a result, in addition to the newly tailored equipment packages, there are also more individual options, which, according to the press release, “offers customers more freedom to personalise their Polestar 2 than ever before”. However, features such as the Harman Kardon sound system (€1,000) or the LED Pixel headlights (€1,200) are no longer part of the packages, but must be ordered separately – or can be ordered separately if the individual options are not important to you.
The new Polestar 2 will be launched immediately in Europe and Canada, with other markets to follow later in the year. In Germany, the basic version (Standard Range Single Motor) is listed in the configurator from 48,990 euros. The variant with a large battery and a motor in the rear costs at least 52,690 euros, while the all-wheel drive version (only with a large battery) costs at least 56,990 euros.
