Co-op Funeralcare now offers electric hearse
Funeralcare aims to offer “clients a more sustainable travel option when saying goodbye to their loved ones.” The co-op specifies that the initiative is part of a £9 million UK-wide fleet investment and greater climate plan. It wants to be net zero across the entire business by 2040 and replace its fleet with electric alternatives by 2035.
In addition to the fully electric hearse, a Ford Mustang Mach e Etive, the electric fleet also includes the fully electric Mercedes E-Vito Ambulance and Nissan Leaf. So far, the vehicles are only available at a handful of locations. However, according to Funeralcare, the roll-out will continue “across the UK throughout 2024.” Also, all of these locations will get charging points.
“Funerals are changing, and we know how important it is to our member owners and clients that we explore more sustainable options and elements of the service for when they come to us to arrange their loved one’s funeral,” says Gill Stewart, managing director at Co-op Funeralcare. “Using electric vehicles is one of the ways we can help realise this, which is why we’re thrilled to be able to offer families more choice in how they celebrate the lives of their loved ones, as well as those planning their own funeral.”
