MAN Truck & Bus now offers its heavy electric trucks in the UK
According to the manufacturer, the MAN eTruck can now also be ordered on the island following its sales launch in continental Europe in October 2023. To mark the order launch, MAN Truck & Bus UK teamed up with Sunswap to organise a driving event on British soil, although a left-hand drive vehicle with a German registration plate was still used. The combination of the electric tractor unit with a specially developed battery and solar-powered Sunswap refrigerated trailer was also presented at the event.
While the two versions eTGS and eTGX are available in continental Europe, MAN Truck & Bus UK is initially only launching the MAN eTGX 4×2 eTruck. This is a battery-electric tractor unit, while the eTGS is offered as a chassis.
The drive technology is the same in both cases: customers can choose between four, five and six battery packs (with 320, 400 or 480 kWh energy content). With the smallest battery, MAN specifies a range of up to 260 kilometres, which is sufficient “to meet the needs of typical average mileage in distribution transport operations.” With the 480 kWh option, up to 400 kilometres are possible for the maximum range in long-distance transport. MAN has already factored in a charging stop (CCS with up to 375 kW, MCS in future with up to 750 kW) for the frequently mentioned “daily range” of 800 kilometres. A solution with just three battery packs for a range of 195 kilometres is also available for the eTGS, for example for shorter distances in distribution transport.
In addition to the batteries and cabs of the GX and GS series, MAN offers a whole range of other customisation options for customers: There are “nine different wheelbases, six cab variants, steered and non-steered trailing axles, leaf, air and full air suspension, individual driving programs specially adapted to the respective application and numerous other industry-typical features,” the manufacturer writes. With the presentation of the eTGS at IFAT in Munich in the spring, the number of configurable MAN eTruck variants has risen to over one million.
MAN Truck & Bus recently announced the largest single order for the MAN eTruck to date: 100 units are going to the French logistics company Jacky Perrenot. MAN has received almost 2,000 enquiries and orders for the eTGX and eTGS versions of the electric truck around seven months after the sales launch.
