Etrel becomes Landis+Gyr EV Solutions

The Swiss company Landis+Gyr has fully acquired the Slovenian charging infrastructure manufacturer Etrel. The Swiss company has also appointed former Smatrics boss Michael Viktor Fischer as CEO of the business unit, which will operate as Landis+Gyr EV Solutions in future.

Landis+Gyr is a global provider of energy management solutions that acquired a 75% stake in Etrel in 2021. The Slovenian company Etrel supplies hardware and software for charging electric vehicles in private homes, businesses, fleets and public places.

Under the new label of Landis+Gyr EV Solutions, the company previously known as Etrel will continue its mission to “enable a wider use of renewable energy for electric mobility and help EV batteries become an essential part of smart grids”, according to Landis+Gyr.

The Swiss company is open about its ambitions in this area, which will also be underlined by a change in the management team: Landis+Gyr EV Solutions will be led by Michael Viktor Fischer as the new CEO, who brings with him many years of experience in the field of electromobility. Fischer will also become Vice President EV Solutions within the entire organization.

Michael Viktor Fischer pointed out: “An extremely important area is the development of semi-public charging infrastructure for companies and public facilities, this is where the greatest growth potential lies. These locations require not only reliable charging hardware but above all a comprehensive software for load management and billing.” Fischer also said “The vehicle-to-grid (V2G) concept will bring a major shift in this segment, where all connected vehicles act as electricity storage units that relieve the strain on the power grid and balance out power peaks.

Landis+Gyr is known in the renewable energy space for its smart metering solutions. In 2020, Landis+Gyr participated in the charging project called SmartStep in the UK with its smart meters.
