Keolis wants to procure over 250 electric buses for Utrecht
The contract runs for ten years, is an extension of an existing contract, has a total value of 750 million euros and comes into force in December 2025. The contract covers the deployment of more than 250 electric buses. It is not known which manufacturer these electric buses will come from. It will be the largest e-fleet operated by Keolis. The electric buses will be gradually added to the network and charging stations will be installed in the bus car parks and the five depots in the network. With this new service, Keolis is supporting the province of Utrecht in realising its vision of sustainable and inclusive mobility. The network will be given a new name and will operate under the name U-OV (Utrecht Openbaar Vervoer) instead of Syntus Utrecht.
“The renewal of this contract for a further ten years confirms our customer’s confidence in Keolis. In recent years, we have been able to deliver a quality transport service, and even increase passenger satisfaction levels, despite the driver shortage. Continuing to support Province of Utrecht in its energy transition ambitions by gradually deploying a fleet of 250 electric buses is a source of immense pride for our teams in the Netherlands. Their commitment to the Syntus Utrecht network is admirable, and I’m convinced that they were instrumental in securing the new contract,” said Jan Kilström, CEO, Continental Europe, at Keolis.
Keolis has been present in the Netherlands since 1999 and is strengthening its presence in the country with the renewal of this contract, which the company has had in the Utrecht region since 2016. To increase the attractiveness of the network, Keolis proposes to extend the timetables and offer more services to users. As part of its inclusion policy, Keolis is also setting specific targets for the accessibility of public transport in Utrecht and will strengthen its collaboration with local associations.
