The aim of the agreement is to successively promote technology transfer between science and industry through joint projects and thus sustainably strengthen the innovative power and competitiveness of the battery industry, particularly in Germany and Europe, according to the Münster-based FFB. Together, the challenges associated with the planning and realisation of the necessary battery factories in Europe are to be overcome.

Specifically, PEM Motion will provide consulting and engineering services in the field of electromobility – from product design to business development. “By cooperating with Fraunhofer FFB, we not only have a professional partner to offer our customers unique services in many areas of battery cell production, but also an innovation partner to further develop the state of the art in this field,” says PEM Motion Managing Director Christoph Deutskens.

“Electromobility has long since established itself on the mass market. The industrialization of battery cell production is essential to meet demand in a cost-effective and sustainable manner and to achieve technological dominance in Europe,” said Florian Degen, Head of Strategy and Corporate Development at Fraunhofer FFB. “Through cooperations such as with PEM Motion, we can make innovative technologies and production know-how available to an even broader user market and thus put Europe in the fast lane.”

At the end of April, Fraunhofer FFB completed the first construction phase in Münster, the so-called ‘FFB PreFab‘. The PreFab offers around 6,800 square metres of research space. The larger FFB Fab will create 20,000 square metres of additional production and research space and enable industry-oriented production research and development in the gigawatt range with plant technology on a large industrial scale.
