The Chinese state-owned Dongfeng Group consists of the core passenger car brand Dongfeng, the premium EV brand Voyah, founded in 2019, and the luxury EV off-road brand Mhero. Dongfeng recently launched its expansion within Europe at an event in Madrid. The company presented its electric cars Voyah Free, Voyah Dream and Mhero 1, which will be available to order from the market launch. The Group also presented two electric vehicles: the four-metre-long Dongfeng Box electric city car and the Dongfeng 007 electric coupé, which measures just under 4.90 metres and will launch in Europe in the first half of 2025.

In addition to launching its EVs, Dongfeng is opening shops in Europe. The plan is to have 160 shops by 2025 “to further strengthen the visibility of the brand and our presence on the European market.” In Germany, the Chinese company’s electric trio will be available to order from the fourth quarter. According to Dongfeng, interested parties can already view the Voyah models at the Bleuel dealership in Kerpen, near Cologne.

The Chinese manufacturer has been trying its hand in Europe since the end of 2022. Its first market was Norway, where the first Voyah Free was delivered around a year and a half ago. The manufacturer is now also active in other Scandinavian countries. In February, Dongfeng announced that the core markets of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal would follow in 2024.

The Voyah Free competes in the SUV class. It has a length of 4.90 metres and a wheelbase of 2.96 metres. The electric drive of the European models is likely to differ from that for Chinese customers. In any case, media reports from Car News China and others at the launch in Norway stated that the Free would be available there as a dual-motor version with 360 kW of power, 720 Nm of maximum torque, a 106.7 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 500 kilometres. On the other hand, China has three drive options, each with different performance data.

The Dream shares the platform with the Free but is designed as a seven-seater. It is 5.32 metres long and has been on the market in China since the end of 2021. So far, only details of the version destined for China are known. Both the Free and the Dream are also available as plug-in hybrids. It is not known whether both drive types will be available in Europe.

The Mhero 1, on the other hand, is a 3.4-tonne electric pickup. Thanks to four electric motors, the model offers up to 800 kW of power. It is based on the so-called MORA platform.
