The zero-emission heavy-duty trucks from HVS will be supplied to Explore with a service and maintenance plan, full training on the safe use of hydrogen, refuelling and driver training, and hydrogen fuelling infrastructure.

HVS revealed a 5.5-tonne technology demonstrator model in 2022 that it said was a hint into the company’s planned 40-tonne zero-emission HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle). The young Glasgow-based company then revealed plans for an autonomous version early last year.

The 30 HVS hydrogen fuel-cell-powered trucks now being supplied to Explore Plant & Transport Solutions will be used to provide transport and plant hire services across the UK to a diverse range of industry sectors including aerospace, construction, rail and nuclear. With a fleet of 150 trucks, 6,000 plant hire assets and 7 depots, Explore claims to be the fastest-growing haulage and plant hire business in the UK.

Chris Gatheridge, Operations Director for Explore said, “It is our firm belief that hydrogen-electric fuel cell vehicles are set to revolutionise the long-haul and line-haul trucking industry, providing a clean alternative to traditional diesel engines.”
