With the takeover of London-based Switch EV, EcoG says it will “assume full operational responsibility for the Josev team at Switch and its products”. This means that existing customers using Josev will also be supported by EcoG in the future. “Following the transition, EcoG will continue to provide support for Josev’s broad customer portfolio, including ABB E-mobility, Alfen and Zaptec, as well as its existing customers such as Siemens and iCharging,” EcoG announced.

EcoG itself has so far mainly been active in the field of DC charging. With its reference designs and charge controllers, EcoG specialises in enabling large manufacturers to bring their products to market quickly and easily. The acquisition and the new partnership with Switch EV will now expand EcoG’s offering to include AC and commercial vehicle charging solutions. The company is not disclosing the financial terms of the deal.

The importance of the timing of the acquisition was revealed in an EcoG statement, explaining that following Tesla’s recent reduction of its infrastructure business, there is a large gap in the market for infrastructure companies to meet the growing demand for scalable and reliable charging solutions for electric vehicles. EcoG says that it sees its ‘s role and strategic partnership with Switch, including the integration of the Switch cloud-based platform, as being critical to creating a “seamless charging experience on a global scale.” Earlier this year, EcoG opened its USA headquarters in Detroit.

“The synergy between Switch EV and EcoG is based on both leadership teams’ decades of experience in electric vehicle charging,” says Jörg Heuer, CEO of EcoG. “This collaboration not only expands our capabilities by adding AC and commercial chargers to our portfolio but also positions us as a leader in the transition to sustainable transportation.”

In January this year, Switch EV revealed that its charger operating system, Josev, is certified for Plug&Charge with Hubject. Josev enables the integration of ISO 15118-2 and next-generation ISO 15118-20 features, which include bi-directional AC and DC power flow and the Megawatt Charging System (MCS)

“The partnership with EcoG allows us to expand our footprint and reach and realize the vision of a fully integrated charging solution (from electric vehicle to charger to backend) based on open standards – for all charger manufacturers and grid operators,” adds Marc Mültin, founder and CEO of Switch. “Together, we are setting new standards for the most robust, scalable and user-friendly charging experience, driven by innovation and a shared commitment to quality and sustainability.”
