Kia aims for 800,000 annual vehicle sales in Europe by 2028
Kia presented its long-term vision for the company at a two-day dealer convention in Berlin, Germany. The company further stated that it wants electrified models to account for up to 85% of its sales by 2028. In 2023, when it sold 572,297 vehicles in the region, 37.9% of them, 217,145 units to be specific, were electrified.
In its efforts to cut CO2 emissions, Kia plans to expand its hybrid vehicle range from six models in 2024 to nine models in 2028. The company has lined up a number of new EVs as well, including the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5. Also in the pipeline are pure electric purpose-built vehicles, with the medium-sized PV5 scheduled to enter production in 2025 and the larger PV7 planned for 2027.
Earlier today, Kia launched the EV3 in South Korea, for a starting price of ₩42.08 million (~€28,000). The EV3 slots below the Niro EV, which costs ₩51.14 million (~€34,000) onwards in the company’s domestic market. The new electric SUV will arrive in Europe later this year. The EV4 and EV5 should follow in 2025, and finally the EV2 in 2026.
Globally, Kia has set an annual sales target of 1.6 million EVs and aims to achieve it by 2030. The company’s global-level EV growth efforts will involve introducing GT derivatives of several EVs. The EV9, which is an all-electric three-row family SUV, will receive the high-performance variant in January 2025.
The EV6, which was introduced in 2021, also received a facelift recently, and it should reach Europe in the updated avatar in the coming months.
Lastly, Kia will make electrified vehicles more advanced and more accessible to improve their sales. The company plans to start the production of fifth-generation batteries with 7% higher energy density and 10% lower cost in 2025.
