Equipmake to electrify more buses for Golden Tours
The new contract for the bus electric retrofitter Equipmake to electrify ten B5 London Tour Buses follows a £ 2 million initial order in February from Golden Tours. The London sightseeing and UK tourism company was established in 1984 and specialises in tours around the capital and day trips to UK locations such as Stonehenge and Bath. Equipmake says it expects to commence delivery of the ten newly electrified double-decker buses over the coming months.
Equipmake offers the arguably most sustainable and cost-effective option of electrifying fleets by repurposing the existing chassis and body, rather than producing an entirely new double-decker bus. The company says each conversion costs less than half the price of a new electric bus. Since most buses in service for more than 14 years, the British retrofitting company finds opportunity in enabling operators to make savings by repowering their buses halfway through their operational life cycle.
In April this year, Equipmake delivered 12 retrofitted buses to York. The decarbonisation of London Tour buses is nothing new to Equipmake. Just over a year ago, the retrofitter announced the new deal with sightseeing company Big Bus Tours today for whom it will retrofit ten Hop-On double-deckers with zero-emission drivetrain technology in the British capital. While these buses are now entering service, earlier this year, Big Bus Tours extended the deal with Equipmake to electrify a further ten buses, all of which are Ankai double-decker sightseeing buses.
Equipmake has experienced a steady meteoric rise with the electrification of road transport in the UK. Last year, the company expanded its activities from electrifying buses to offer its services, technology and expertise in the aviation and maritime industries.
