The first examples of the electric i5 Touring were handed over to customers in Europe and Japan a few days ago. The electric estate launched with two variants: the i5 eDrive40 Touring and the i5 M60 xDrive Touring.

The i5 eDrive40 Touring delivers 250 kW with an electric motor on the rear axle. In comparison, the i5 M60 xDrive Touring is designed as the current top model of the entire 5 Series and offers significantly more power at 442 kW – thanks to a second motor and all-wheel drive. The familiar battery with a net energy content of 81.2 kWh is also installed in the underbody. We summarised all the technical details in this article.

This summer, BMW will also offer two versions of the BMW 5 Series Touring with plug-in-drives. The new BMW 530e Touring will have an electric range of 83 – 95 kilometres (52 – 55 miles), while the BMW 530e xDrive Touring can go 82 – 89 kilometres (51 – 55 miles) on one charge. The BMW 5 Series Sedan will also be offered as a PHEV.

All three models come with a four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, “which together generate a system output of 220 kW/299 hp.” They are also fitted with a battery with a usable energy content of 19.4 kWh.

Moreover, BMW presented the new 3 Series Sedan and Touring models, which will be launched worldwide in July 2024 – including as a plug-in hybrid with optimised efficiency and increased electric range thanks to a new high-voltage battery with a usable energy content of 19.5 kWh.

Both models will be manufactured in Munich, and the sedan will also be built in BMW’s Mexico plant in San Luis Potosí. “The new BMW 3 Series Sedan for the Chinese market will be produced at the Tiexi plant in Shenyang operated by the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA),” BMW adds. Both models will also be available with petrol and diesel engine variants.
